4 Carpet Cleaning Hacks to Revitalize Your Home

Carpets add a nice touch of warmth and coziness to any room, yet cleaning off some nasty old stains can be a difficult undertaking. In this post, we share some of the most actionable hacks to clean your carpets quickly and effectively.

1) Regularly clean the carpets with a deodorizer

Deodorizing cleaning is a great way to get rid of everyday dust and spots. Additionally, deodorizers effectively remove any smells which is especially important for pet owners. There’s a great variety of deodorizing products in today’s market, some using stronger chemicals and some focusing on natural components, so you can easily find something to your liking. Coupled with vacuuming, frequent deodorizing is a great way to remove spots as they occur.

P.S. Some people like adding baking soda to their deodorizers as, indeed, it’s a very effective component.

2) Remove pet stains with an iron

First of all, vacuum (or at least sweep) the carpet. Next, prepare the following mixture:

  • ¾ water;
  • ¼ vinegar.

Dampen a piece of cloth in this mixture and lay it over the spots. Start ironing the cloth and, as you go, the stain will gradually disappear. It’s possible that old stains won’t disappear completely but you can make them less visible for sure.

3) Clean your carpets with a shaving cream

Surprisingly, shaving cream is a good way to remove the spotting. All you have to do is apply some of it onto the stain and use an old toothbrush to rub it properly. Next, wipe off the cream with a clean damp cloth. Clean the area one last time with a dry rag. Nothing complicated at all, yet shaving cream oftentimes removes even the toughest spots like red wine.

4) Use baking soda to refresh the carpets

Baking soda is cheap and effective, therefore, you should arm yourself with it asap. You can even make a homemade deodorizer by mixing it with some perfumed oil (e.g., lavender).

You can then sprinkle the solution over your carpets. Let the mixture sit for at least 20 minutes (you can even leave it overnight, if you can). Next, vacuum the carpet and enjoy a delicate odour all over the room (remember to empty the vacuum cleaner once you’re done so the baking soda won’t damage the insides).

Baking soda provides deep cleaning and refreshing effects which eliminates any allergens and microbes penetrated into the carpets. It also helps to effectively remove the pet hair that got intertwined with the fibers.
